How to be Successful? first trait : Courage
Deepest in the minds of every human, the need to become Successful, lies. But the quest to desire and learn how to be successful, has almost ceased. For when an individual poses, “How to be successful?”, most too often he or she forgets that the very question is desiring the “Keys that would unlock those countable many doors, behind which Success dwells.
Achieving success doesn’t mean you ought to spot the Unicorn. It is far easier than that. In fact, once you have the list of requirements, you would have equipped yourself well to achieving the things that you desire.
This word has long been forgotten now. For the times that we live had made everyone so comfortable that they now associate this word only to the bygone ages of the Ancient where the very survival of a state, a city, a town, or even a clan, depended on the Courage of its people and its leaders.
Words such as Courage, Valor, Bravery and Gallantry, have all now become obsolete. So thus, more so often when good departs something takes its place, and in most cases the exact opposite adjective would be the most likely choice. Why? For the simple fact that to stand up and live, you would need to have a strong spine and strength in your legs to go with. On the contrary, you would need nothing but cowardice to fall down and die.
The saddest part is, most prefer the later rather than the former when it comes to changing their economic conditions. For the famous saying goes, “when you don’t use it, you lose it”. People have lost these traits for reasons that technological inventions and easy availability of food and shelter have made them a couch potato, to say the least.
The TV, the Weak people and the dawn of Chumps
Now imagine you are in your home and some junkie makes a house invasion with a knife in his hand. He grabs hold of your girlfriend and threatens to harm her if you don’t part with your phone. You say to yourself, “I can always get another phone, but the girl is more important”, so you give the phone to him.
Now he has your phone, this means you would not be able to call for her, and more so, all of your credentials are on it, in short you have surrounded your life to him. Now he head butts you and you fall to the ground, your head hits the vase on the way down, you are semi unconscious. From the corner of your eye, you can now see the junkie profusely slapping the girl, pushing her to the ground, pulling her pants off and he begins to violate her and then something happens, the screams stop.
This is not something you see in movies alone but a situation that happens periodically in all parts of the world. In most cases the perpetrator of the crime can be stopped even before he had the opportunity to gain entry. At the very first place you didn’t even bothered to check if the door was locked behind you or not. To you, your football game was more important than your house being ransacked.
Well what if the Junkie was strong and he kicked open the door while you sat there watching the TV. Well, as Mark Twain once said, “In a dog fight, it is not the size of a dog in a fight that matters, but the size of the fight in a dog that matters”. According to Homer, “even a cat becomes a tiger when cornered”.
So what are we telling you ? The minute you hear the door slammed opened, your instinct should kick in to defend your home and those precious for you. To use what ever force, to use what ever that lies around as a form of weapon to stop the aggressor. But the saddest part is, your mind is always so occupied with TV watching that it can hardly react. Thus you had let it all go.
Analysis
However it is also imperative to understand that Courage and Strength go hand in hand. For it is said, the Strong shall inherit the weak. Now, you might ask, how could that be possible. Well, it is simple, the Strong knows that they are strong and that gives them the audacity to move about as if they own everything around. The very fact that their muscles are tighter and firmer and is always pumped up would automatically make them Confident. That is why it is a common quote to pose, “Do you even lift?”
The invention of TV, though had been a boon, yet still in most cases with the gradual spreading of the TV culture, this boon had been made into a bane. However as AviCenna, once said, “is it the fault of the wine if a fool drinks it and wanders into the darkness” Likewise, is it the fault of the TV, if these fools fill themselves up with movie marathons and sitcoms poundings, instead of training their body and mind?
Of course we all know the answer. Thus coming back to the original idea for which this post was written, Courage-its absences or presences can make a huge difference in your life. However, just because someone says they are courageous does not mean they are Courageous.
For Courage is a result of a serious of things done every single day for the rest of your life. Meaning, it is not a one off event. Yes, I did these things and here I am so filled with courage, Noway! That is never going to happen and it will never happen.
