Drop your Ego

Most people live for their Ego so much so that they miss out the best of opportunities that life shares out to them, all because they had failed to drop their Ego. This is so very true when you are working in a Corporate set up. But the problem is most are even not aware what Ego means. According to some reliable insights, your Ego can be defined as follows; Your ego is nothing but your conscious mind, that part of your identity that which you consider your “important self.” If you say someone has “a big ego,” then you are saying she is too full of herself.

There is a huge unseen rift between immediate Supervisors and their subordinates. The rift can be largely due to the fact that some of these subordinates are highly qualified and that in lieu of better opportunities and offers, they had opted to shift organizations and thus landed up at their present portfolio.

Habits die hard and at times even harder. They had been exposed to the Habit of people coming to them, but apparently in this Organization, they ought to go to the desk of someone else. Be it applying for Stationary, Time offs, Over times, Request to attend training programs, and so on.

This can be really cumbersome at times especially if you had not accepted the fact that you were the one who had selected this Organization and that for reasons such as benefits you had compromised your once existing high flying profiles. So why are you upset now?

Of course it is easily said than done. The Habit of always being looked up to is now triggering in. Because of that, they are now in constant battle with the Immediate Supervisor. Of course, in the given Organization, the Supervisor ranks higher up in superiority and work experience, and hence you would be in no way viewed on par or even given a voice of consideration given the status quo of existing set up.

Plus at the very first place you had clearly seen the intricate details of the acceptance letter and now there is no reason to complain. But you see, EGO, will always win over substantial justification.

To keep your job at times it is okay to play low

We know this is hard to say, but if you don’t, the chances of you continuing at the current job would be drastically minimal. With constant rift developing between you and your Supervisor, the only alternative that is left with the Organization would be to tell you politely, “you are fired”.

Why would they do that? For the simple reason that your presence is constantly creating Chaos and setting precedence for other employees to act likewise.

We all know that you are Qualified, Smart, and Intelligent, but given the present scenario your job would be to work under this Supervisor. Of course it is Hard to let your Ego go, but remember you are here because you had made the choice of placing the Benefits and other social advantages over your seniority and freedom you had enjoyed at your previous Organization.

What should you do to gain your Supervisor’s respect

Of course your supervisor is aware of your potential and your work Experience and more so the reputation that you had in your past Organization. But for sure, deep within he or she would definitely be intimidated and would find ways to prove their authority. At times they might use ways that aren’t quite acceptable yet all these can be avoided if only you play game by the rules.

The First Rule to Impress your Supervisor

The first and foremost Rule is, let your Supervisor think and feel that he or she is in command. It is imperative to understand that this very rule can save your head. Why is it so? For the simple fact, though it is said we all live in the Liberal age, yet still, the scepter of power still controls and rules the course.

No matter at what level you might find yourself in, the moment there is a title attached to a job, the holder of the job automatically assumes the task of the task master. Of course they don’t use the whip anymore, but they have something mightier than that, the ink to pen your recommendation.

Of course, we know that you know every jot when it comes to executing the project meticulously. Yet still, if you were to go all out thinking that you would win the favors of your Boss, well, think again. Your stupidity might momentarily win you an accolade letter of appreciation from the Top management, but you had severed the bridge between you and your immediate supervisor.

Now you have an Adversary sitting right above your head, waiting for an opportunity to shred you into pieces when the Staff Appraisal is due for Contract consideration.

All these could be easily avoided if only you had given the mantle to your Superior. Thus knowing everything act as if you got all your leads from her. At times, make her feel comfortable by asking the most obvious question.

Let her think that she is in control and you wouldn’t be able to function without her able guidance. Of course this is shameful, because at one place we talk of raising standards to optimize efficiency at workplace, and at the other hand you ought to act as if you are the dumbest person around. But strangely, this will ensure your survival and be liked by your Supervisor.
