You only have so many summers to harvest

Young people starting their employment at 25 always think that they have all the time in the world. Thus with this thought process they live their lives as if there are countless tomorrows. Spending their salaries on everything that they think is necessary. Burn it all away within the first couple of days and then contemplate for the next pay day with desperation and anxiety. But what they fail to understand that being a 35 year old conveys a whole lot of a different meaning at the job place than the meaning it conveyed whilst they were in their mid twenties.

That means, the warmth and the welcome that you once received from your company will not remain consistently hanging there for you forever. For with age, it is presumed that your efficiency also depletes and your net worth in the eyes of your company is takes the route of inverse proportionality with regard to your age.

When asked as to what he considered the single most herculean hurdle in realizing his World Heavy weight championship, Mr. George Foreman, responded as, age. Not that he felt being 40 posed an insurmountable uphill challenge when it came to his physical fitness routines, but on the contrary it was the way the world viewed a 40 year old. To the world, being 40 is a death sentence.

Mr. George Foreman, spilled gems of valuable advice when he made this statement. But apparently, as usual like all good advice, it too fell by the wayside in a youth’s life.

The quality of a horse is ascertained from its teeth, whilst your quality is ascertained from your age

This is sad but it is the fact how the world judges the individual. By 30, most of the opportunities dry up. The first yard stick of scrutiny is the age, once the HR, sees that, for sure the reading stops there. Irrespective of the individual’s achievements and accomplishments, industries are never willing to invest resources and opportunities on a 30 year old. With population growing at enormous rates, there is no shortage for talent and when the supply is so much, the Market places follow the law of Demand-Supply. Hiring managers would prefer applicants who can be hired at a fraction of an experienced candidate.

No one can be blamed. The reason being, over the past decades, the Market place has changed drastically. It is said, if a company wishes to make a small profit, then it ought to start with a large profit.

If you are in Middle Management, start your preparation

When you are in middle level management, your age would be either in late 30’s or early 40’s. This would mean your salary package and other perks would also be on the higher end.

From the company’s angle, you are no more of value to them than a 25 year old, so why on earth should they pay you a higher compensation? Well, don’t be alarmed, this is typically the way, Higher Level Management thinks. For running a Company is like running a kingdom. With enemy armies in form of competitors always watching you and contemplating your next move and its impact.

So, to save the company, the Top level management would always target its human resources. For, at least, 50-60% of a Company’s earnings will go towards paying its employees.

Every additional package or benefit offered to an employee will attract blows and hits inform of financial deficit. With the Market being flooded with labor, and that there are scores of unemployed readily available at a fraction of the cost, no wise thinking CEO, would want to risk his position for saving the Ax from your head.

Preparation

This is the key word that you ought to learn and apply if wish to stay long and enjoy your life on this beautiful planet called Earth. It is said, the wise prepares for an unseen opportunity and the opportunity arrives, he buckles up to embrace it. But the saddest part is that 95 % don’t even care or even contemplate a remedial action if they were faced with an adversary like lay offs.

It is estimated that the average working American can merely support his family for 5 days if he was laid off. On the contrary it is estimated that a prepared American can sustain his family for 12 months in case of a lay off. Now you can understand what we are exactly talking about.

Life is certain, but job is never. The laws of Employment are ceaselessly working to get at the weak and the dumb [we mean those who are lackadaisical] So, remember, you only have so many summers available to secure your harvest. If you plan well and get prepared, you will never have to see a day of humiliation, disappointment or embarrassment in your life.
