Why Ph.Ds are dead broke
According to Statistics, 80% of the graduating PhDs don’t get an Industry Job placement at the time of their graduation. Of all the reasons that Industries cite, one being, most PhDs are just not flexible and are too lazy to step out of their comfort zone.
Loss of Individuality
A normal duration for completing a PhD is around 4 to 5 years when done full time. During this time, a PhD aspirant spends most of his or her time under the supervision of his or her Advisor so much that their Advisor becomes their thinking Head.
The condition becomes so critical that a student would be scared to move even a piece of paper from point A to point B, without the consent of his or her Advisor.
Thus, in a span of 4 years, the student loses all of her individuality and becomes merely a second or third assistant, working tirelessly to advance the interests of her Advisor.
Cowardice sets in
If, Bravery is a virtue then Courage is the Shield that protects the brave. It is written that a Coward dies a thousand death, while the brave defies even death. The conditioning in the labs will leave a PhD, embalmed with Cowardice. They have this self belief that to please their Advisor, they should merely accept every Sh#t, heaped upon them.
They become so spineless that in the face of adversary, they simply resort to playing the Mr. Nice Guy, role. This trait alone is sufficient enough to shut any business down. In brevity, they lose the ability to stand up and ask, “why?”
PhDs are never offered a Tenure-do you know why?
They are so much obsessed with themselves and their Thesis, that the moment they open their mouths, all that they can speak is about themselves and their work.
Imagine, you meet up with person and she dominates the conversation with nothing but portraying how great a person she is and how wonderful is her work, how would you feel? Imagine, the plight and the situation of Students, who are paying to hear such herculean pain from the hands of their Professors and Lecturers.
It is imperative to understand that the Success of a course depends on its Subscription, And students would only pay if they like the course, and liking a course largely depends on the Lecturer’ attitude and personality.
The irony is, hard mental labor of 4 to 5 years, turns a once pleasant personality into an iron metal wrinkled face that never even widens its face while during a yawn. Then imagine the feeling that it would convey to a student, whose only solace and motivation to pursue the course comes from his lecturer.
Naturally no one would enroll, the subscription dies out, eventually the course perishes. Now if the University had hired a tenured lecturer, irrespective of the course having subscription or not, it would be obligated to still continuing paying the Lecturer, which would only burden the Bursary of the already sinking University.
Thus the best thing to do would be, Never offer a Tenure to any PhDs, but merely a Contract to teach for the semester. In this way, the University is not obligated and that way can protect the interests of the University’s future survival.
Hiring a PhD is a Liability
Before an Organization could distribute Profit, it has to bring in Profits. Of the main necessities required to bring in profit, the vital one being effective Human relationship personalities. The example that could illustrate this attribute, would be the success story of Prudential Insurance. The company was started with small team of Sales personnel. It is imperative to understand that no one buys Life Insurance, it has to be sold.
Now the main quality that this small team of Sales personnel had was, Pleasing Personality. The company which started off with negative turnovers within a matter of months, had branches distributed all over America. This single most reason for its success being its pleasant faced Sales Team. For 90% of the people who bought Insurance, never knew what it has or the benefits that it has to offer. They simply bought, because they liked the personality of the man or woman who is selling that to them.
Now how would that mean hiring a PhD would be a Liability? Simple, for PhDs have forgotten the art of being Pleasant. Of the main reasons suggested by Companies as to why they don’t want to hire, PhDs, the one that stood out is the fact that, PhDs are not Teachable. Anything outside their domain, they resist it with die hard vengeance. This puts the Company at a tight spot. Having hired them, they have no other option but to fulfill the contract thus weighing heavily on their Company’s running cost.
